A message from Dr. Belz

Dear Patient,

For many years, it has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to care for you and your family. Whether you’ve been with Uptown Dental for decades or recently joined our practice, the trust you’ve placed in me, and my team has meant more than words can express. The relationships we’ve built have always been the heart of this practice, and I am deeply grateful to have been part of your dental health journey.

As I considered the future of Uptown Dental, my highest priority was finding the right person to continue caring for the patients who have trusted me for so many years. It is with great confidence and excitement that I introduce you to Dr. Amber Arshad, who officially became the owner of Uptown Dental on June 1, 2026.

From the moment I got to know Dr. Amber, I knew she shared the values that have guided our practice from the beginning: compassion, honesty, respect, and exceptional clinical care. She is an outstanding dentist who genuinely enjoys building lasting relationships with her patients and making them feel comfortable and cared for. After getting to know her personally and professionally, I am confident that the future of Uptown Dental is in excellent hands.

While this marks a new chapter for our practice, many of the things you value most will remain the same. Our wonderful team will continue serving you from the same convenient location, your dental records will remain securely with the practice, and there will be no interruption to your treatment or care.

I also won’t be disappearing overnight. To make this transition as smooth as possible, I will continue seeing patients for a period of time. This will allow me to work alongside Dr. Amber, personally introduce many of you to her, and help ensure the continuity of care you have come to expect from Uptown Dental.

Under Dr. Amber’s leadership, I know the practice will continue building upon the foundation we have created while finding new ways to enhance your experience and provide the highest quality dental care. I hope you will extend the same warmth and trust to her that you have so generously shown me over the years.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives and your family’s health. It has been an incredible honor to serve this community, and I look forward to seeing many of you in the office as we begin this exciting new chapter together.

With sincere gratitude,

Jeffrey D. Belz

Teeth Cleaning Services Offered in Cedar Hill, TX

Regular teeth cleaning removes plaque, ensures a healthy smile, and reduces the risk of common issues like tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath. At Uptown Dental in Cedar Hill, Texas, general dentist Jeffrey Belz, DDS, uses preventive teeth cleaning to keep smiles vibrant and cavity-free. Call Uptown Dental today to schedule a teeth cleaning appointment or book your visit online.

Teeth Cleaning Q + A

Do I need professional teeth cleaning if I regularly brush and floss?

Yes. It’s important to undergo professional teeth cleaning twice annually, even if you brush and floss. Plaque — a film of food, bacteria, and saliva — collects between your teeth and under your gums. The only way to access that buildup is with professional teeth cleaning.

What can I expect during professional teeth cleaning?

Professional teeth cleaning at Uptown Dental includes the following steps:

  • Oral Exam: Dr. Belz uses gloved hands to examine your teeth, gums, tongue, and the roof and floor of your mouth. He measures the distance between your gum tissue and teeth, checks for cavities, and assesses your tooth and jaw alignment.
  • Oral X-rays: Oral X-rays use digital sensors and advanced imaging technology to capture photos of your tooth roots, jaw, and alveolar (the bone that anchors your upper teeth). X-rays help Dr. Belz identify underlying issues, like bone loss and tooth decay.
  • Teeth Cleaning: A dental technician or dental hygienist removes the plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth and beneath your gums. You might hear some scraping noises during this part of your appointment, but you shouldn’t experience any discomfort.
  • Teeth Polishing with Gritty Toothpaste: Your dental hygienist or technician uses an electronic toothbrush and gritty toothpaste to polish your teeth. The gritty consistency removes any remaining buildup and eliminates minor stains and tooth discoloration.
  • Professional Flossing: After polishing your teeth, your dental hygienist flosses them. Flossing removes any remaining buildup between your teeth and massages your gums so they stay healthy.
  • Optional Fluoride Treatment: Dr. Belz recommends fluoride treatment if you have teeth susceptible to cavities. Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens your enamel for several months.

At the end of your teeth cleaning, Dr. Belz alerts you to any potential concerns and makes personalized recommendations to prevent them from worsening.

How do I prepare for professional teeth cleaning?

Before visiting Uptown Dental for professional teeth cleaning, you should brush and floss. Consider writing down questions or concerns you’d like to discuss with Dr. Belz, too. It’s easy to forget during the appointment, so this can provide peace of mind.

Teeth Whitening Services Offered in Cedar Hill, TX

Teeth whitening provides a quick and effective way to reduce the appearance of stains and tooth discoloration. At Uptown Dental in Cedar Hill, Texas, general and cosmetic dentist Jeffrey Belz, DDS, offers in-office teeth whitening with Philips Zoom! ® Zoom teeth whitening provides instant results that last for several months. Call Uptown Dental today to schedule a teeth whitening consultation or book your appointment online.

Teeth Whitening Q + A

Is professional teeth whitening more effective than at-home teeth whitening?

Yes. Professional teeth whitening with Philips Zoom! can make your teeth up to eight shades lighter in a single treatment session. At-home teeth whitening solutions, on the other hand, like whitening strips, help reduce stains, but they take several weeks or months to provide noticeable results.

Professional teeth whitening is quick, affordable, and convenient. Once treatment is finished, you don’t have to worry about maintenance for at least four months.

Why do teeth change color?

Everyone develops tooth discoloration due to general wear and tear. Daily activities, like eating and brushing your teeth, cause your enamel to wear down, revealing more of the yellow dentin underneath. Tooth discoloration also occurs because of:

  • Drinking coffee, black tea, and soda
  • Using tobacco
  • Oral trauma
  • Taking medication with tetracycline

Brushing and flossing twice daily prevents some discoloration, but there’s no way to stop it entirely.

What can I expect during professional teeth whitening?

At Uptown Dental, professional teeth whitening takes 45–60 minutes. Dr. Belz protects your gums and tongue with a rubber dam and applies the Zoom teeth whitening gel to your teeth with a small brush. Your teeth absorb the gel and it oxidizes the stains and discolored molecules within. The oxidation process brightens your teeth, making them appear more vibrant. Dr. Belz repeats the same steps several times until you’ve achieved the desired level of whiteness. He rinses your mouth afterward and explains how to maintain your results.

Does professional teeth whitening present any side effects?

Professional teeth whitening is safe and usually well-tolerated. You might experience increased gum sensitivity for a day or two after your appointment, but any discomfort should improve within 48 hours. Call Dr. Belz if symptoms last longer.

Do the results of Zoom! teeth whitening last forever?

The results of professional Zoom! teeth whitening don’t last forever, but the process brightens your smile for 4–6 months. Practice good oral hygiene to keep your smile bright and stain-free. Brush your teeth twice daily, drink dark beverages with a straw, and quit smoking. Teeth whitening maintenance twice annually at Uptown Dental can help your smile stay brilliantly white for years to come.

Veneers Services Offered in Cedar Hill, TX

Dental veneers cover minor tooth imperfections, like chips, stains, and noticeable gaps. At Uptown Dental in Cedar Hill, Texas, general and cosmetic dentist Jeffrey Belz, DDS, uses dental veneers to help adults achieve brilliant and symmetrical smiles. Veneers last 10 years on average and transform your smile. Call Uptown Dental today to schedule a consultation for dental veneers or book your appointment online.

Veneers Q + A

Can dental veneers make my smile more aesthetically pleasing?

Yes. Dental veneers are wafer-thin porcelain or composite resin coverings bonded to the teeth at the front of your mouth. They conceal cosmetic imperfections and don’t require surgery or other invasive procedures.

At Uptown Dental, Dr. Belz uses dental veneers to camouflage an assortment of cosmetic flaws, including:

  • Abnormally small teeth
  • Unusually shaped teeth
  • Chipped and broken teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth

Veneers can also cover tooth discoloration that doesn’t improve with professional teeth whitening treatment.

Am I a candidate for veneers if I have cavities or gum disease?

No. You need to have healthy teeth and gums to get dental veneers. If Dr. Belz uncovers cavities or periodontal disease during your initial consultation, he develops a treatment plan to address those issues first. After your mouth heals, you can move forward with veneers.

How do I prepare for dental veneers?

At Uptown Dental, getting dental veneers takes two visits spaced several weeks apart.

During your first visit, Dr. Belz completes an oral exam to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. If you qualify for dental veneers, he numbs your mouth and removes a paper-thin layer of enamel from your teeth. Dr. Belz takes digital impressions of your teeth and transfers them to a dental laboratory. It takes a few weeks for the dental lab to design and manufacture your custom veneers from porcelain or composite resin. You return to Uptown Dental when the veneers are finished.

What can I expect during veneer placement?

At your second appointment, Dr. Belz aligns your custom veneers with your teeth and assesses their shape, color, and size. He bonds the veneers to your teeth with dental cement, checks your bite, and removes any excess material.

Let Dr. Belz know if you aren’t happy with how your veneers look. He works with you and the dental lab to ensure you’re satisfied with your new smile.

Following veneer placement, you can return to normal activities right away. Your teeth might feel more sensitive than usual for a day or two, but these symptoms should improve within 48 hours.

Inlays And Onlays Services Offered In Cedar Hill, TX

Dental restorations, like inlays and onlays, can repair your teeth and prevent further damage if you have severe tooth decay or oral trauma. At Uptown Dental in Cedar Hill, Texas, general and restorative dentist Jeffrey Belz, DDS, uses inlays and onlays to repair teeth with damaged chewing surfaces. These restorations help preserve your smile and prevent the need for more invasive procedures. Call Uptown Dental today to schedule an inlays and onlays appointment, or book your visit online.

Inlays and Onlays Q + A

Are inlays and onlays the same as dental crowns?

No. Inlays, onlays, and crowns are all dental restorations, but they aren’t the same.

  • Inlays: A dental inlay is a piece of porcelain, gold, or ceramic that repairs the damaged chewing surface between the cusps of your tooth. Cusps are small bumps on the top of your teeth. They help grind up food, making it easier to swallow.
  • Onlays: A dental onlay is a piece of porcelain, gold, or ceramic that repairs the entire chewing surface of a tooth, including the cusps. Onlays are larger than inlays and restore a larger portion of tooth enamel.
  • Crowns: A dental crown is a porcelain, gold, or ceramic cap that covers all of your tooth enamel above the gum line. You might benefit from a crown if you have severe tooth damage that can’t be fixed with an inlay or onlay.

The easiest way to determine which type of restoration will most benefit you is to schedule an appointment at Uptown Dental.

How are inlays and onlays applied?

Getting dental inlays or onlays takes two visits over several weeks.

If Dr. Belz determines that you can benefit from an inlay or an onlay, he removes the decaying or damaged tooth enamel and prepares your tooth for the restoration. Then, he takes impressions of your tooth and sends them to a dental laboratory. Dr. Belz covers your tooth with a temporary sealant until your custom inlay or onlay is ready.

After the lab completes your restoration, you visit Uptown Dental for the second time. Dr. Belz removes the temporary sealant and lines the inlay or onlay up with the chewing surface of your tooth. Dr. Belz bonds the restoration on top of your tooth with dental cement and checks your bite. Then, he polishes your tooth, ensuring a smooth chewing surface.

Why should I choose an inlay or onlay instead of a traditional filling?

Traditional dental fillings can weaken your tooth enamel by up to 50%. Conversely, inlays and onlays make your tooth enamel up to 75% stronger. They often last 10–30 years and are easy to care for. Simply brush and floss twice daily and visit Uptown Dental twice annually for checkups.

Crowns And Bridges Services Offered In Cedar Hill, TX

Crowns and bridges repair severe tooth damage so you can smile confidently. At Uptown Dental in Cedar Hill, Texas, general and restorative dentist Jeffrey Belz, DDS, uses custom crowns and bridges to transform smiles and encourage optimal oral health. Dr. Belz offers porcelain and porcelain “pasted on gold” crowns and bridges that look like your natural teeth. They’re tough, durable, and provide long-lasting results. Call Uptown Dental today to schedule a crowns and bridges consultation, or book your appointment online.

Crowns and Bridges Q + A

When are dental crowns and bridges necessary?

At Uptown Dental, Dr. Belz uses dental crowns and bridges to repair damaged, decaying, or missing permanent teeth. Though similar, crowns and bridges aren’t the same:

  • Crowns: A crown is a custom cap that Dr. Belz bonds on top of a damaged or severely decaying tooth. Dr. Belz offers porcelain crowns and “porcelain pasted on gold” crowns. These materials look like your natural tooth enamel and blend in with your smile.
  • Bridges: A dental bridge fills a gap in your smile where a permanent tooth used to be. Dental bridges have an artificial tooth (pontic) and two dental crowns or a metal framework. The artificial tooth fills the gap in your smile, and the crowns or framework hold the bridge in place.

Dr. Belz partners with area dental labs to ensure these custom restorations fit perfectly and last for years.

How do I prepare to receive a dental crown or bridge?

Before getting a dental crown or bridge, Dr. Belz completes an oral exam and takes oral X-rays. You qualify for treatment if you have a severely damaged or decaying tooth or a missing permanent tooth.

Dr. Belz takes impressions of your tooth or the gap in your smile and sends them to a dental lab. The lab uses your impressions to create a custom dental restoration that looks natural and fits perfectly.

How are crowns and bridges applied?

After the dental lab finishes your custom crown or bridge, you return to Uptown Dental for a second time.

  • Crown Placement: If you’re getting a crown, Dr. Belz positions the crown and bonds it on top of your tooth with dental cement. After the cement dries, he polishes your teeth and checks your bite to ensure a perfect fit.
  • Bridge Placement: If you’re getting a bridge, Dr. Belz places the artificial tooth in your empty socket and bonds the crowns or metal framework to the abutment teeth on either side. After the dental cement dries, Dr. Belz checks your bite and polishes your teeth.

How long do crowns and bridges last?

Dr. Belz uses crowns and bridges made from porcelain or porcelain “pasted on gold.” These materials are incredibly tough and can last up to 20–30 years.

Dentures Services Offered in Cedar Hill, TX

Dentures are an affordable and effective way to replace some or all of your natural teeth. At Uptown Dental in Cedar Hill, Texas, general and restorative dentist Jeffrey Belz, DDS, has more than 25 years of experience designing and fitting custom dentures. Call Uptown Dental today to schedule a denture consultation, or book your appointment online.

Dentures Q + A

Can I benefit from dentures if I have missing teeth?

Yes. Dentures let you bite, chew, and speak confidently if you’ve lost some or all of your permanent teeth. Dentures restore your smile and reduce your risk of more serious issues, like bone decay and gum recession.

Are there different types of dentures?

At Uptown Dental, Dr. Belz offers several types of dentures, including:

  • Partial Dentures: Partial dentures look similar to an orthodontic retainer. They have a metal framework and several artificial teeth.
  • Complete Dentures: Complete dentures have an entire row of artificial teeth. They rest on top of your gums and are held in place with denture glue.
  • Implant-Retained Dentures: Implant-retained dentures are similar to complete dentures, but they’re held in place with dental implants instead of denture glue. Implants are small titanium posts that Dr. Belz inserts into your empty tooth sockets.

The type of dentures that will most benefit you depends on several factors, including your budget, treatment goals, and the number of permanent teeth missing.

Does it take several appointments to get dentures?

Yes. Getting custom dentures takes at least two appointments spread over several weeks or months.

Partial and Complete Dentures
If you want partial or complete dentures, Dr. Belz takes digital scans of your mouth. He sends your scans to a denture lab that uses them to make a custom model of your mouth. The lab technicians use this model to design a set of dentures that fit perfectly and look natural. Once the dentures are finished, the technicians polish them and send them to Uptown Dental. When your custom dentures are ready, you visit the office for the second time and try them on.

Implant-Retained Dentures
To get implant-retained dentures, you need healthy gums and enough bone to support the dental implants. Dr. Belz inserts a series of dental implants into your empty tooth sockets during outpatient surgery. Several months later, after the implants finish integrating with your bone, you return to Uptown Dental. During the recovery process, Dr. Belz gives you temporary dentures so you can bite and chew. At your second visit, Dr. Belz takes impressions of your mouth and sends them to a denture lab. The lab uses your impressions to create a custom model of your mouth and build your implant-retained dentures.

Dental Implants Q + A

Can anyone get dental implants or are there special requirements?

You need healthy gums and bones to get dental implants.

Dental implants are small posts made of titanium that fuse with your jaw or alveolar (the bone that supports your upper teeth). If you have gum disease or low bone volume, the implants won’t integrate properly, increasing your risk of complications.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants offer various benefits, including:

  • Easier biting and chewing
  • Improved oral health
  • Convenience
  • Durability
  • Clearer speech

Dental implants don’t require soaking like dentures. You don’t have to remove them before going to bed. Instead, brush your teeth twice daily.

What can I expect during dental implant surgery?

Dental implant surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes 60–90 minutes on average.

Dr. Belz numbs your mouth with a local anesthetic and carefully places a number of small titanium posts into your empty tooth sockets. The number of implants you get depends on how many teeth are missing and whether you’re getting a dental crown, a dental bridge, or implant-retained dentures.

After placing your dental implants, Dr. Belz provides recovery instructions and covers them with temporary restorations so you can bite and chew while your mouth heals.

The recovery process takes 3–4 months. Once the implants finish fusing with your bone, you return to Uptown Dental. Dr. Belz takes impressions of your mouth and sends them to a lab that creates your custom implant restorations.

Several weeks later, when your implant restorations are finished, you visit Uptown Dental. Dr. Belz removes your temporary implant restorations and replaces them with permanent ones. He checks your bite, polishes your teeth, and explains how to keep your implant restorations in optimal condition.

Are dental implants painful?

Dental implant placement is safe and usually well-tolerated. Dr. Belz administers an anesthetic before treatment to ensure you don’t experience any discomfort.

Your gums and mouth might feel sore for several days after the procedure, but these side effects are often mild. You can take anti-inflammatory medication to relieve swelling.

Do dental implants require special care?

Caring for your dental implants is easy. Brush your teeth twice daily, rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash to keep bacteria at bay, and visit Uptown Dental twice annually for teeth cleaning and checkups.

Gum Disease Treatment Q + A

Who can benefit from non-surgical gum disease treatment?

You might benefit from non-surgical gum disease treatment at Uptown Dental if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Red or purplish gums
  • Bleeding
  • Soreness
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Unpleasant taste in your mouth
  • Pain while chewing
  • Gum recession

As gum disease worsens, you might have loose teeth or experience changes in the way your teeth fit together (alignment issues).

What is gum disease?

Gum disease occurs when plaque — a mix of food, saliva, and bacteria — collects and hardens on your teeth and underneath your gums. As more plaque forms, it irritates your gums, causing them to swell and pull away (recede) from your teeth.

At Uptown Dental, Dr. Belz treats both types of gum disease:

  • Gingivitis: Gingivitis is a mild infection that causes your gums to become red and swollen. Early intervention and treatment can prevent gingivitis from worsening and preserve your smile.
  • Periodontitis: Periodontitis occurs when gingivitis goes untreated. It’s a more serious infection that erodes the periodontal ligaments — tough bands of tissue that hold your teeth in place. When these ligaments wear down, your teeth may loosen or fall out.

Gum disease develops slowly over time. You can reduce your risk by brushing and flossing daily and visiting Uptown Dental twice annually for checkups.

What are some examples of non-surgical gum disease treatment?

At Uptown Dental, Dr. Belz offers several types of non-surgical gum disease treatment, including:

  • Dental cleaning: Mild gum disease often responds to professional dental cleaning. Dr. Belz uses ultrasonic debridement tools and scalers to remove plaque buildup and eliminate harmful bacteria from your mouth. With less bacteria, your mouth begins to heal.
  • Scaling and root planing: More serious cases of gum disease often benefit from scaling and root planing (deep dental cleaning). During scaling and root planing, Dr. Belz removes (scales) plaque buildup from beneath your gum line. Afterward, he smooths (planes) the root surfaces of your teeth so your gums can reattach to them.
  • Arestin ® antibiotic therapy: Sometimes dental cleanings and scaling and root planing aren’t enough to prevent gum disease from worsening. If you have pockets of infection beneath your gums, Dr. Belz prescribes Arestin therapy. Arestin ® is an antibiotic bead that Dr. Belz implants beneath your gum line. It dissolves slowly over time, eliminating harmful bacteria so your mouth can begin to heal.

Braces Services Offered in Cedar Hill, TX

Traditional braces have long been the gold standard in orthodontic treatment, offering a reliable and highly effective way to correct even the most complex dental alignment issues. At Uptown Dental, we are proud to provide comprehensive orthodontic care, including custom-fitted braces, to help patients of all ages achieve a beautifully straight and healthy smile.

Braces Q + A

Why choose traditional braces over clear aligners?

While clear aligners are incredibly popular, traditional braces are often recommended for more severe or complex orthodontic cases. Braces exert constant, gentle pressure to slowly move teeth into their proper positions. Because they are affixed to the teeth, they work continuously and don’t rely on patient compliance (like remembering to wear trays). They are highly effective at closing large gaps, correcting severe overcrowding, and fixing significant bite issues (overbites, underbites, and crossbites).

What is the process for getting braces?

The journey to a straighter smile begins with a comprehensive consultation. Dr. Belz will examine your teeth, take digital X-rays, and discuss your orthodontic goals. If braces are the right choice for you, the next step involves cleaning and drying your teeth before applying a special bonding glue. The brackets are then carefully attached to the center of each tooth. Once the brackets are set, the archwire is threaded through them and secured with elastic bands.

How long will I need to wear braces?

Treatment times vary widely depending on the complexity of the case, ranging anywhere from 12 to 36 months. During this time, you will visit Uptown Dental regularly (usually every 4 to 8 weeks) so that we can monitor your progress and make necessary adjustments to the wires to ensure your teeth continue moving correctly.

Are braces painful?

The application of braces does not hurt. However, it is common to experience some soreness or mild discomfort for a few days after they are first applied and after your routine adjustment appointments. This is completely normal and means the braces are working! Over-the-counter pain relievers and orthodontic wax (to prevent the brackets from rubbing against the inside of your mouth) can help manage this temporary discomfort.
